Kuwait: Joyline Gonsalves, Glen Vas reach finals of GVOM-5

Kuwait, Oct 1 : In a professionally organized Kuwait segment of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 5, Joyline Gonsalves from Mount Rosay, Kalyanpur/ Holy Rosary, Kundapur Parish and Glen Vas from Bondel, Mangalore. have entered into the finals in female and male category respectively. The winners will contest for coveted title of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 5 to be held in Bahrain on November 11 this year.

After the stupendous success of four seasons Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) Season-5 semi-final was organized by Kuwait’s No#1 Mangalorean Association Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) on Friday 30th September 2016 at American International School from 4:10 pm. GVOM is considered to be the most popular and biggest Konkani reality show in the Middle East.

As the clock struck 4:10 pm Anil Fernandes introduced the event with GVOM History after Bhajan Aalaap by First GVOM Vinay Lewis from backstage. The curtains opened with the live music by “Muzik Collective” led by Kiran Gonsalves. GVOM title winners of last four seasons G (Gladys Lorena), V (Vinay Lewis), O (Orson D’Souza) and M (Morvine Quadros) appeared on the stage to sing GVOM theme song. It was a rare opportunity to witness all 4 winners of previous season and a rare coincident which includes 4 consecutive wins with winner’s names starting from letters GVOM which was first noted by Kuwait’s popular guitarist Joy Fernandes. After the Speech of KCWA President Praveen Menezes, a souvenir was released to mark the event by Fr. Noel D’Almeida and Committee members.





 























































































































 
GVOM Kuwait Semifinalists and Judges Alwyn Noronha, Edith D'souza & Ajith Peter D'souza were called to the dais and were introduced. Judging criteria was announced by GVOM Coordinator Steeven Misquit who was also actively involved in last 4 seasons of GVOM. It was followed by the competition for the 12 participants Roshan Olivera, Rilson D'souza, Marcus Almeida, Hywel Pinto, Glen Vas, Maxy Pinto, Renuka Cutinha, Joyline Gonsalves, Irene Santhmayor, Renita Raina D'mello, Cynthia Mable Pinto and Flavy Pereira.

In between the competition, musicians John Kiran Gonsalves (Lead Keyboard), Alwyn Fernandes (Lead Guitar), Joy Fernandes (Rhythm Guitar), Jackson D'souza(Bass Guitar), Ronald Rodrigues(Acoustic Drums), Ethan Fernandes (Keyboard), Joyston D'souza (Congo & percussions), Prashantha Pais(Violin)and Austin Salins (Trumpet) were introduced. It was a record in GVOM history of 5 seasons that 9 musicians playing live for any level of competition. Semifinalists, musicians and Audition Judges Joe D'souza, Gratian D’Souza and Glady Noronha were felicitated by Naveen Ranjith after the competition. Sponsors, Judges and Singers were felicitated by Fr. Noel D'Almeida and Fr. Blany pinto during the event. Chief guest Konkani Sahitya Academi president Roy Castelino GVOM Founders Lawrence Pinto & Louis Rodrigues were felicitated with Shawl, fruit basket, flowers and momento. GVOM Founder organizers Rita Rodrigues and Wilson Saldanha were felicitated with flower bouquets. Fr. Noel and Roy Castelino spoke few words about GVOM. Roy gave an important information that Konkani is among 22 national languages spoken by 41 communities and written in 5 scripts.

After intervals, the cultural part of the event started with song “Konknni Uronk Zai” by Alwyn Noronha & Edith D'souza. Audience thoroughly enjoyed various songs such as Disco Disco, Lag Ja Gale, Mog Tuzo Kitlo Ashello, Vengenth Gevun, Pavs go Baye and Kanthaar Karun.

Rib tickling jokes Dr. Lobochen Clinic, Halli taun Delhi TV Show, Olympic Kutamb & Richaso Mog were enacted by Lional Mascarenhas, Lucy Aranha, Rajesh Fernandes, Sathish Saldanha,& Zaneta Aranha which were written & directed by Lucy Aranha & Lionel Mascarenhas. Music for jokes was provided by Purandhara Manchi. Foot tapping dances for recorded and live songs choreographed by Dafney Rodrigues, Nigel D'Souza, Joyce Olivia D'Souza, Cyndrella Gonsalves, Inese Martis and Susan Saldhana made the audience to move themselves on their seat.

The most awaited time then arrived with the announcement of Joyline Gonsalves and Glen Vas as the finalists by Anil Fernandes in presence of the judges and Roy Castelino which was welcomed with a huge round of applause and cheer from the audience. The winners were presented with flowers, decorated with sashes and trophies by Roy Castelino.

The audiences were glued to their seat with the nonstop entertained of music, dance and jokes. The sound, lightings and stage with giant LED was eye catching effort by CAMCO Global Events who also provided the same professionally during last 4 seasons. Music by Muzik Collective under leadership of Kiran Gonsalves was excellent and worth complementing which took the show to a professional standard. The addition of popular music composer and guitarist Alwyn Fernandes Dubai gave a special flavor to the show. It was a memorable experience to Kuwait audience to witness him playing music continuously for 2 seasons.

The proceedings of the program will be sent to Nirmala- Home for destitute, Alangar. A presentation on the same was shoed to the audience. The program was well compered by Anil Fernandes, Linette D'souza, Deepak Andrade & Freya Saldanha. Vote of thanks was proposed by Steeven Misquith.

Kuwait : Twelve singers qualify for GVOM semifinals

Kuwait, May 14: Following the success of the mega Konkani singing talent hunt show 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' during the last four seasons, ?Kuwait Canara Welfare Association? organized the preliminary rounds of ?Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 5? on Friday May 13 at R.V. Party Hall - Avanti Palace Restaurant, Hawally.

 

After the final registration process, the event started at 10:30 am with prayer by Naveen Mascarenhas followed by entry of compere Anil Fernandes. KCWA President Albert Praveen Menezes extended a warm welcome to the audience and contestants.

 

Judges for the day?s competition - Kuwait?s famous and evergreen singer Mr. Gratian D?Souza of Paradela fame who has released 3 music albums, professional musician and trainer Mr. Joe D'Souza and singer, composer and music teacher by profession Mrs. Gladys Noronha were introduced by Anil Fernandes. All the three judges are well-known personalities of Kuwait in the music field. The judges were then escorted to the dais and presented with flower bouquets. SteevanMisquith ? Coordinator for GVOM Season 5 handed over the judges mark sheets to the judges and briefed the audience and contestants about the competition rules, format and judging criteria.

The competitions were held separately for female and male contestants. The numbering sequence was decided by taking lots in presence of audience.  Female singers were chosen to sing first followed by male. Compere Anil Fernandes thanked all the musicians for their voluntary service in training, practicing and playing guitar. Kuwait?s well known guitarist Joy Fernandes played guitar to most of the contestants voluntarily, as he has been doing in the previous four auditions of GVOM. His service was extended to such a level that out of 41 contestants, he has trained and played guitar for 26 contestants.


In his message, Fr. Blany Pinto, Parish Priest of Salmiya Parish, requested the contestants to take the results positively and appreciated the 41 contestants who were courageous enough to take part in the competition. Louis D?Costa proposed vote of thanks and grace before meals. The program was well compered by Anil Fernandes.  Joyston D?Souza captured the event with his skills in photography and Alban D?Souza did the videography. Waves Evetns& Rentals provided the sound system. The event ended with sumptuous meals by Avanti Palace Restaurant.

 

It was a tough time for judges to choose 12 semifinalists among the total 41 contestants (14 male 27 female). Names of the preliminary round winners, who will move on to the semi-final round of Gulf Voice of Mangalore, are given below (badge number wise):

One each successful contestant from male and female categories will be chosen to go to Bahrain for the finals to continue their hunt for the coveted title, along with ten other contestants from Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The finals will be held on 11th November 2016.

 

The main purpose of this show is to provide a platform to Konkani singers residing in the Gulf. There are many singing talents all over GCC who do not get the right opportunity to showcase their talents. This competition will open new doors for them and enable them to bring out their hidden talents.

SHAILA LOBO, MORVINE QUADROS MARCH INTO FINALS OF GVOM-4

Kuwait, Sep 20: In a professionally organized Kuwait segment of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4, Shaila Lobo from Milagres, Mangalore and Morvin Quadros from Barkur have entered into the finals in female and male category respectively. The winners will contest for coveted title of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4 to be held in Muscat on November 7 this year.

Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) Season-4 semi-final was organized by the founder of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' Youth Recreation Centre (Rising Stars) on Friday September 19 at American International School from 5 pm. GVOM is considered to be the biggest Konkani reality show in the Middle East.

As the clock struck 5 pm the curtains opened with the countdown music. Dubai's popular compere, singer, stage artiste and GVOM Season 1 runner-up Dony Correa who was host for the evening made a grand entry with a self introduction and soon after the organisers Lawrence Pinto, Louis Rodrigues, Wilson Saldanha, Rita Rodrigues along with Daijiworld founder Walter Nandalike and John Paul Fernandes, a great supporter of GVOM inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. The GVOM theme song was played which was followed by a prayer dance by Preeti Suvarna, Susan Saldanha, Kenisha D'Costa, Ashley Bothelo and choreographed by Mabel Suvarna of Desi Strikers. 

The semi-finalist male and female pairs walked up to the stage holding hands as Musiz Collective gave a wonderful music. Judges Adrian Gomes, Anitha D'Souza and Prashanth Raj were welcomed to the dias with flower bouquets and were handed over the judging sheet by the orgnisers.

Lawrence Pinto officially welcomed the audience with his speech which was soon followed by the competition for the 12 participants Renita Raina D'mello, Kavitha Noronha, Marina Veigas, Nirmala Machado, Shaila Lobo Sunitha D'Sliva, Rilson D'souza, Amith Menezes, Morvine Quadros, Hywel Pinto, Roshan Olivera and Marcus D'Almeida. Judges were escorted to the stage and the semi-finalists were felicitated with mementoes.

Walter Nandalike was welcomed to the dais with floral bouquets for the release of Adrian Gomes Instrumental CD Volume 4. Well-known musician Andrian who was also part of panel of judges, have released three volumes of his instrumental albums in the past.

Main sponsor of the event Gulf Cables and Electrical Industries Co and Wire Control were felicitated with memento and bouquets. Sponsors of the event were Caesars Group of Restaurants and Gulf Bank, co-sponsers Helen Pinto, Land Traders Builders and Developers, Sinnemar General Trading & Contracting company, Khalil Bahman & Partners, Wrap it Movers & Diyab Mohd. Hajii were also felicitated with mementoes and bouquets.

Joe D'souza and Glady Noronha were felicitated by Fr Noel Almeida and Fr Melwin Dsouza on this occasion for being the judges for the auditions which were held back in May 2014. Lawrence Pinto honored Raymond D'sa who is a supporter of sports and social work for Konkani in Kuwait.

After intervals, the cultural part of the event started with a video presentation which took the audience down a memory lane with highlights from the past 3 seasons. Entertainment part commenced soon after the presentation with Anitha D'souza singing Bebdo Ghov with Desi Strikers Preeti Suvarna, Susan Saldanha, Kenisha D'Costa, Apeksha Khashap, Jaspreet Kaur, Suman Saldanha, Ashley Bothelo and Kendrick D'Costa performing a unique Punjabi western dance and the song by Prashanth Raj Ye Nari Ye for which Desi strikers performed a Spanish dance appreciated by all. Audience laughed their lungs out for the jokes written by Lancy Rodrigues and acted by Stephen Machado, Anil Menezes, Renny Menezes, Lucy Arhana and Rajesh. Visiting artists Anitha D’Souza, Prashanth Raj, local singers Gladys Lorena (GVOM winner 2010), Orson D'Souza (GVOM Winner – 2012) rendered beautiful numbers like Bebdo Ghov, Yego Mary Gadhya Mereri, Swapnanth Doscha Mujya Raya, Ye Chedwa Tuzho Mogh Haven Kela, Bhognanth Lhaar Utlaan, Ye Nari Ye, Manglurchen Chedunani Goenkar Chedo.

The main attraction of the event was Mubarak Al Rashed Al Azmi a Kuwaiti who sang the Konkani song “Mog tuzo Kitlo Ashelo”, which was an all time super hit and created history. As a surprise, the second part was sung in Arabic which made the song even more beautiful. The crowd was overwhelmed with joy listening to a perfect Konkani accent and strongly requested for an encore. Looking at the response from the audience compere Dony asked Mubarak to sing the chorus along with crowd. The audience gave a standing ovation to Mubarak, who became the superstar of the evening after his successful song presentation. The organizers dedicated the song to its composer, the late Wilfy Rebimbus.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Rita Rodrigues. The organizers of the event along with Walter Nandalike felicitated the judges Anitha Dsouza, Adrian Gomes and Dr Prashanth Raj. Wilson spoke a few words on multi talented Dony Correa the Compere of the day and felicitated him with Memento. Desi strikers Chelograper Mabel Suvarna along with the dancers, Lancy Rodrigues along with his team were also felicitated with mementoes. Musicians Kiran Gonsalves (leader - keyboard), Ronald Rodrigues (drums), Joy Fernandes (rhythm guitar), Kiran Sunny (bass guitar), Allwyn Fernandes Dubai (lead guitar), Prashantha Pais (violin), Joyston D'souza (congo) were felicitated by Wilson Saldanha and Rita Rodrigues. 

Walter Nandalike in his address lauded the enthusiasm of Kuwait Konkani audience who sat glued to the chair for almost 6 hours of top class entertainment. He said, "Today is indeed a historic day for Konkani, as a Kuwait national sang a Konkani song which was witnessed by over 1200 people; looking at the people’s response and atmosphere I am previleged to be part of this historic moment." He commended the hard work put by the two founders Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues and also team members Wilson Saldanha and Rita Rodrigues.

KUWAIT: 12 SINGERS QUALIFY FOR GVOM4 SEMIFINALS
Kuwait, May 10: Following the success of the mega Konkani singing talent hunt show 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' during the last three seasons, ‘Youth Recreation Center’ organized the preliminary rounds of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4’ on Friday May 9 at Avanti Palace Restaurant second branch located at Hisham Center, opposite to Rehab Complex at Tunis street, Hawally.

After the final registration process, the event started at 10:15 am with the formal introduction of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4’and its founder organizers Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues by Rita Rodrigues. Organizing committee members Wilson Saldanha and Rita Rodrigues were present on the dais. Organizer Lawrence Pinto extended a warm welcome to the audiences and participants.
 
 
 
Judges for the day’s competition - Kuwait’s famous music maestro and 'A R Rehman of Konkani' fame Adrian Gomes, professional musician Joe D'Souza and Gladys Noronha who is a singer, composer, story writer and music teacher by profession - were introduced by Rita Rodrigues. The judges were then escorted to the dais by Wilson Saldanha and presented with bouquets. Judging files were then handed over to the judges by the organizers. All the three judges are well-known personalities of Kuwait in the music field.

Wilson Saldanha briefed about the competition format, workshop for the participant, judging procedures and introduced Diany Coutinho- founder of Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait (AAK) as the judging coordinator who monitored totaling procedure of marks along with the judges and Noel Cutinha.

The competitions were held separately for male and female contestants. The numbering sequence was done by lots during registration before the program. Winner of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 3 Orson D’Souza picked the lots and male singers were chosen to sing first. Vote of thanks was proposed by Wilson Saldanha Shirthady. The program was well compered by Rita Rodrigues. Kuwait’s well known guitarist Joy Fernandes gave guitar to most of the contestants voluntarily, as he has done in the previous three auditions of GVOM.  He was honored with flower bouquets by organizers.  His service was extended to such a level that out of 41 contestants, 21 were trained and provided guitar by him.

It was a tough time for judges to choose 12 semifinalists among the total 41 contestants which is a record number comparing to previous three seasons.  Names of the preliminary round winners, who will move on to the semi-final round of Gulf Voice of Mangalore, are given below (badge number wise):

The main idea behind this show is to provide a platform to Konkani singers residing in the Gulf. There are many singing talents sprinkled all over GCC who do not get the right break to showcase their talents.
